Windows 10 - What you need to know

Posted on 19th May 2016 by Stephanie Heslop

Microsoft has recently started automatically upgrading clients to Windows 10.

This could have some serious implications for your Shortcuts software system, so please read these FAQs and follow the instructions provided to ensure your Shortcuts system continues to function as usual.

Why is Windows upgrading people automatically?

Microsoft recently announced that in order to receive your free upgrade to Windows 10, you need to upgrade by Tuesday 29th July 2016. To speed up the process, they have started upgrading people automatically to Windows 10.

How do I know if I'm going to get upgraded?

If you're using Windows 7 or 8.1, you are likely to be automatically upgraded to Windows 10.

You might notice a popup like this one, which could appear on your screen, prompting you to upgrade.

You can also check your upgrade settings manually, by following the instructions here.

Can I stop the upgrade from happening?

Yes, you can stop the upgrade from happening, or delay it until you're prepared. We highly recommend that you choose the option to delay the upgrade, and do this as soon as possible.

To reschedule your upgrade or opt out completely, follow the instructions here.

Will my current version of Shortcuts work with Windows 10?

If you are using Shortcuts 7.4 or higher, you can upgrade to Windows 10, but you may need to make some small changes to your hardware and software setup. See below for details.

If you are using Shortcuts 7.3 or lower, please see above for instructions on how to reschedule the Windows 10 upgrade until you've had a chance to prepare. You will need to email us at supportaus@shortcuts.com.au to update your Shortcuts system, before you upgrade to Windows 10.

Is there anything I need to do once I've upgraded to Windows 10?

Reset your default printer

Check that your add-on hardware is working

Some add-on hardware such as cash drawers and receipt printers may not be compatible with Windows 10. You may need to install the latest drivers for these devices.

If you have installed the latest drivers and the devices still do not work, email the Helpdesk on supportaus@shortctus.com.au

I've just upgraded and my ConnectME isn't working. What do I do?

If you are using ConnectME, you will be required to upgrade the 3rd party software Terminal Service Plus (TSPlus) to the latest version. You can get the latest version of TSPlus here.

I'm still having trouble, can you help?
